Portugal wins ‘Oscar’ for the best tourist destination in the world for the 3rd time.
Portugal was chosen as the World’s Best Destination for the third time in a row at the World Travel Awards. The ceremony took place this Thursday, 28th of November, in Muscat, Oman.
This distinction was awarded for the first time to Portugal in 2017, renewed in 2018 and again in 2019. In June, the country had already been re-elected the best Tourist Destination in Europe, also for the third consecutive year, at a ceremony held in Madeira.
The Portuguese Tourism Secretary of State, Rita Marques, says that “this news confirms that Portugal is the best touristic destination in the world. It’s an honour to receive this award, that recognizes the excellence of Portugal and the Portuguese people. At the same time this brings a great responsibility. We all must continue to work hard to enforce the Portuguese brand internationally”.
The other nominees were: Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dubai, Greece, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, USA and Vietnam.
